Tanuj Nakra M.D.

Dr. Nakra graduated in 2001 from Chicago’s Rush Medical College and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honors medical society. He completed an internship in medicine & surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, and then moved to Los Angeles for a residency in eye surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. Upon completing his ophthalmology training, he was presented with the Bausch & Lomb Surgery Award, given to the resident with the highest surgical skills.
 
He then continued training at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA with a two year fellowship in ophthalmic plastic surgery and cosmetic facial surgery with Drs. Robert Goldberg, Norman Shorr, Jonathan Hoenig, and Raymond Douglas. The fellowship is accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery (ASOPRS) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS). A gifted teacher, he was presented with the Jules Stein Fellow Teaching Award and the King-Drew Ophthalmology Fellow of the Year Award. He has delivered numerous educational lectures at UCLA and has traveled around the country teaching others new techniques in ophthalmic and facial plastic surgery. He has a fervent interest in clinical research, and has many publications and ongoing projects on facial asymmetry, orbital reconstruction, and Graves’ disease.
 
Dr. Nakra grew up in St. Louis. He was a recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Washington University in Saint Louis with a bachelor’s degree in Honors Biology and a minor in Fine Arts. Dr. Nakra has an artistic side that was nurtured from his early years. He has a passion for drawing, painting and sculpture. He also plays the guitar and bass guitar. He founded a band that performed for over a decade prior to his specialty training. Dr. Nakra is married, and resides with his wife in West Los Angeles.
